questions about tailpipes

Sorry these are kinda newbie questions. I’ve got a full catback dynomax ultraflow system in my S5 NA, and the tailpipes I have right now are the same size and look as stock. I was hoping to get better looking tailpipes now. Maybe slightly bigger ones, 2.5” tip maybe. I was wondering:
- does increasing the tip make any difference in performance? I know it will change the sound slightly, but will it let more air flow through, or is there enough flowing through right now with the stock I think 1.5” tip?
- How would I go about removing the tip and putting on a new one, I don’t see any bolts or clamps, so would it need to be welded off and on?

well you can go on ebay and find some cheap exhaust tips but you will most likley have to get your old ones cut off and some new ones put on. these are what people usually get

bigger tips won't do anything but make more cops pull you over.

true, but I want pipes that are a little thicker and shinier than my current ones, they look bone stock, not that it looks bad, just that it'd look better with something else doesn't have to be huge, or give off obscene amounts of noise, the sound right now is good enough...

That I know of they don't sell REGULAR mufflers very much anymore since the FnF movies popularized the 4-6" tip muffler a great amount of companies have focused on the larger diamiter RICE CAN echaust muffler.
I would go with the comment of another forum member and buy the RB cat-back. It is WORTH it. The mufflers are straight through and have SS construction and nice tips that are slightly angeled upward. They will probably flow more than your engine can dump out of the exhaust right now so you don't really have to worry about restriction. Another great attribute to the RB products is that they are Relativly quiet while still adding a respectable amount of HP(for a cat-back). Their exhaust tone is also very nice and not raspy or chainsaw/week wacker like. At the moment my exhaust aswell as my car are muddy from the recent rains. As soon as I wash the car the exhaust always comes back to its original shine and mirror finish.

1.3 liter- Deep is not going to happen i'm sorry.

The large diamiter mufflers I see on FC's like the ApexI and CS and even my friends Magnaflow's all sound very very loud.

Police, Ear drums, tastefulness are three good reasons not to get rice can mufflers.

The RB mufflers are straigh through you can't get any better than that unless you have a TII and you need a 3-4" muffler on a single exhaust.

Go to pep boys and look in the muffler tip section. You can buy bolt on tops that will make your tailpipe look larger...

That sounds like what you're trying to do, rather than actaully getting a whole new muffler.

Keep in mind that a new muffler will change th sound of the exhaust, a tip has nothing at all to do with it.
