Questions about removing Air Compressor

What are necessary precautions I should take before I remove this (disconnect the hoses, lines, etc.) I pulled my power steering today, and to do that I pulled out the AC Compressor and the mounting bracket. I wasn't sure if I should remove the AC Compressor lines...don't I have to get it depressurized or something? Anyone know?

I hope I can just yank the **** out, cause right now it is tied to my firewall with string and probably not good to drive long distances with it like that.

Thanks guys.

It depends if your air works or not. I ripped my **** out 3 days ago-just loosen the bolt on top of the compressor and whatever ***** still in there should come out now. Use gloves cause that stuff will freeze your hands to your tools.

yeah...either loosen the schrader valve on the low pressure side (the larger metal hose on the pass side of the engine bay) or loosen that bolt on top of the ac compressor.

Biggest things to worry about when removing air pump...

have to remove the cats

6port sleeves...might as well pull the LIM and take out the 6port sleeves, actuators, and everything else on the LIM that appears to be mounted to it...all this stuff runs off the air pump. Then you migh as well remove everything else that's vacume operated, and the charcoal canister. Simply buy a bunch of vac plugs and block everything off. Then run a vac line from the FPR to the TB, from the oil injectors to the TB, BOV (if it's a TII) to the TB, and get a large line and run from the brake booster to the back of the UIM or plennum.

My Air Conditioning is in working order. Are you saying that if I just loosen the bolt on top of the compressor and let all the crap drain out then I will be ok to pull it?

You should really have the freon recycled, but I guess everyone just let's it go into the atmosphere. Just be careful. The freon is under pressure and will freeze your eyes if your not cautious. Use the schrader valve by pressing with a screwdriver, just like removing air from a tire. Do not just rip it out....especially if it is still working and as I said under pressure.

Alright, so I can do this myself. I should release the freon using the schrader valve and then it will be safe to remove the compressor and all its connecting hoses?

Just rip the **** out. Be careful, but a lot of people make it out to be 10 times as worse as it is
