Questions about HKS dog tranny 6 speed

I currently have that tranny in an FC. Would a stock fc tranny handle 490 hp ? and if I was to swap the stock tranny in place of the dog tranny is it just remove and replace or is it complicated? Is the FD tranny the same as the FC?

I would think the HKS dog box is stronger than any stock FC trans. Why do you want to remove it?

Is it making your ears hurt?

You want to swap out a $7,000 transmission for a $450 transmission? You want to trade?

Yes, a stock TII transmission will handle 490hp with the appropriate aftermarket clutch and pressure plate.

Yes, the FD transmission is basically the same as the TII transmission, only the clutch is backwards.

Sorry, I don't know about the details of swapping out the HKS and TII transmissions. I am sure that there is a race shop near you that would be willing to perform the conversion for free if you let them keep the HKS transmission, lol.

the FD trans is quite different. it can be swapped but it needs some fab work.

I thought the FC tranny is one of the best out there?

It's good for its age and being a stock item, but a race engineered transmission with hardened straight cut gears? Completely different level.

I'm not giving it away for free geeeez. I was planning to put in stock tranny and sell the dog. However, I was told that the torque determines if the stock tranny can handle that much power or not.

If I was to swap the factory tranny for this one, is it just plug and play or is there any headaches involved?

Uhm, no stock trans is going to handle that much power reliably, and yes it is a direct swap. I think everyones point here is WHY IN THE HELL would you want to in the first place!

well considering that the hks tranny has to be rebuilt around 12k miles, its loud and prob isn't the best gearing for driving around on the street. I can see the reason for wanting to swap out to a normal tranny. As far as swapping them out it should e pretty straight forward. you may need a original transmission mount depending on how the hks tranny mounts.
