Question for those who have replaced the Diff mounts

Okay, try not to laugh...

I jacked up the car using the differential, then I supported it using jack-stands under the shock absorber mounts (by the tires). Then I removed the jack and unbolted the subframe...OOPS! (that car really moved when the subframe came loose) It gets better...I forgot to take the tires off, got those off finally. Now I am in a bit of a hard spot. I have to figure out a way to get the weight of the car off of the subframe. Is there any good locations for jacking the rear of the car that arent on the subframe?

had to remove the subframe, so i jacked up the car.. and put the stands.. on the subframe.. what an idiot

there was so little stuff in my car i just jacked the car back up and put stands under the framerails, seemed to hold fine for me

Hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, heeeee, chortle, chortle, chortle, snicker, snicker, snicker, snicker. Funny. Can't post pictures! Hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, gufhaw, gufhaw, gufhaw.

Let's see now, what goes around comes around? I think thats the phrase.

Do what they do on some airplanes that break a landing gear. Put a big bag under it and blow the bag up. Hee, hee, hee.

Made my day!

I'll think of what I did when I dropped mine. But not right now. I have to stop giggling first.

If I remember right, I cut up some two by fours and jacked just in front of the rear subframe mounts. I can see where your probably running out of jack stands at this point. Sounds a bit dangerous too. I'd pile some tires under there until it gets supported good.

SonicRat....what does it point out?? It points out that I can post differential pictures. humor. Just a friendly sharp stick in J-RATS eye.

The above post was meant in good humor. It relates to a post I made earlier in the day. No mean spiritedness at all.

I did this just a year ago, but just dropped the subframe a bit to get to the differentials front mount bolts/nuts. I've also pulled the differential out on the wife's car by dropping the subframe just a touch. Unfortunaltly its dark and cold and wet outside and I need to stare under the car to remember just exactly where I put the two by fours. It was just in front of the front subframe mounts, but its not clear in my mind exactly how and what was in the way/not in the way.

Oh, now I get it. I thought it was some trick to making it easier. I've swapped out the entire rear-end before, but not just a mount so far.... I think I'll just do the complete rear-end and throw in my limited slip.

Actually, right behind the gas tank on either side there are a pair of tow-hooks I believe, either that or a pair of bolts where the bumper attaches(I can't remember). All I did was put my jackstands on a cinderblock(2 cinderblocks-2 jackstands) and that worked great. Completely isolated from the subframe/differential assembly. Of course, optimal would be one of those hoists that lifts the entire car by the jacking points(I have a friend that has one...what a nice thing to have).

Damnit Hailers, do you have any one of the many 'chat' programs inhabiting the world? It'd be a lot easier to leech off your knowledge than this.
