question on speedo gearing.

is the speedo gear in a 87 SE the same as the one in in a 87 sport? or did they change it to correct for the wheel difference? and would switching from 14 in to 15in throw off my speedo, and which way would it read, slower than im going or faster?

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the SE the Sport edition?

No the SE is Strippy Edition, and was the base model in 87.5-88, I/E manual windows, small 4 lug wheels, etc.

The Sport was the same as a 88 GTU or 89-90 GTUs model, I/E Heavy duty suspension, no power extras, heavy duty brakes, etc.

And the speedo gear is the same, as the wheel/tire overall exterior diameter is the same.

No, they are the same. The only differences are 3.9 rearend in automatics and some convertibles, 4.1 rearends in all turbo and most nonturbo 5sp, and 4.3 in rare nonturbo 5sp GTUs cars.

For each upsize of wheel on the different models, they ran a lower profile tire to make up, so overall rolling diameter is the same. For instance, the 14" wheel might have run a 65 series tire, the 15" a 60, and the 16" a 55 series.
