Question on rear end gearing + gear swap

Hey guys. I recently picked up an LSD out of an auto S4 GXL, but it was automatic... I picked it up for free.

I'd really like to keep the 4.10 gears, but the auto rear diff is a 3.9. Can I just swap over the internals of the auto differential, to have the limited slip, while still retaining the stock (5 speed) 4.10 gear ratios?

I don't want the long gearing of the 3.9's, because I'm looking to get good times at the track. Car is an 88 SE, mods in sig. Since it's a base, it's got the open differential, which is, well... not something I want.

Thanks in advance,
James

Thanks for the direction and the link.

I'll check things out tomorrow.

Appreciate it.

time to set the backlash all over if you swap gears....
shims, assemble, read tracks, over and over again...
