well ya i went to go get car smogged the guy was ful for day but today my car started popping(backfiring) everytime i let off gas when i got to smog places hes like well ur cars popping so check that out before u come. so umm ya just wondering how the *** to fix this **** i put all my money just to get the stock airbox and smog **** on and now this **** happens RIGHT before i goto get it smogged

 

Is it back firing after it's been in boost? Or does it do it just whenever?

mines smogged wiht the back fire. i dont think it matters.

 

ya the smog guy said he would check it out for me, hes a very cool guy. and its after i accelerate and let off gas i dont have to go into boost for it to happen, like i just go then if i left off gas to shift it pops a few times, and ben u wanna come with me to get it smogged on monday? it will be quick. maybe he would be cooler about it :P and u can explain the the guy haha

Is it the smog shop where the guy owns 2 FD's? He tends to be a little easier on RX owners, but not that much easier.

 

nah this guys in yuba city some older gentlemen in a smaller shop, i was gonna go to the bigger shop , but the guy who runs his own business one seems alot more lenient(however u spell that) i told him it might be cat and if i need ill get a new cat later if he passes me :P i just wanna know why its popping =[

 

Running rich? Raw fuel making it into the exaust can cause popping.

 

Check your timing, tps, spark plugs, and get the injectors cleaned.

That should take care of it poping everytime.

 

could be due to the check valve that fits behind the BAC missing which was not in the parts the other guy supplied to you with all the smog stuff. the backfiring is due to air being pumped onto the cat at all times, which is good for smog but not easy on the cat or your ears, have him run it and see how it does then have it inspected by DMV and get that **** off there until you can find all the pieces it needs, it is an all or nothing deal with smog equipment or pieces of the system are hurt.
