question over emmissions rack solenoids..........
Hey all, I am trying to see if my VDI valve/noid are working. Is there any way to tell that its actuating at the right rpm and what not? I checked the fsm but all i found is how to test the noid. I have already checked the valve for smooth movement and will be testing the noid and actuator for functionality tommorow or the next day. I wanted to ask about the noids. Are all the noids on the emmissions rack the same type? If they are that would mean they are interchangable right?

They are interchangeable to some degree. You may need to move the air filter depending on operation, but other than that yes.
When I was testing/setting up my VDI, I used a vac/boost gauge to see when the solenoid switched the air on to activate the VDI actuator.

Buy a LED from RadioShack and some 20-26 gauge wire. Put the wires in the back of the solenoid plug and run the LED to the cabin or even tie it to the wipers. Go for a ride and see when the LED turns on/off. That should be a good indication of when/if the solenoid is getting its signal.
To see if the VDI itself is functional.....just join both the vac hose on the solenoid together or jumper the solenoid while the engine is running. Sorry, never seen a VDI before. Just works off airpump air so that should work.

Well you se guys I am not running the stock air pump driven induction system most S5 guys are. I found that my True duals can actuate the auxilary ports and VDI just find as they provide the proper pressure and are fitted with the pressure fitting to hook a vac line to. I guess I will have to go rent a vac/pressure pump from autozone.
