You got serious electrical system problems...
HOWEVER... I had something similar happen to me, the voltage gauge was bouncing around, the lights were flickering and the car would die when i hit the brakes....
I found that the negative battery terminal had corroded very badly and was also a bit loose. I replaced the terminal, cleaned the battery post and the problem went away!!
Sounds dumb, but it makes sense, if you don't have good contacts, your charging circuit won't work correctly
