question:intake manifold gasket
I want to replace the intake manifold gasket on my 87 GXL (technician found it was leaking from there). It's the gasket that is closest to the block. Are there usually any problems when doing this? I've taken off the throttle body and dynamic chamber before to install a banjo bolt (leaking pulsation dampener). Do I have to remove the auxillary port valve actuators and the
air control valve in order to remove the manifold?
Any suggestions?
thanks,
-Alan

Yep, ACV and port actuators need to come off to get to the bolts for the LIM. (You MAY be able to get to them without taking that stuff off, but it would make it much harder) The actuators and ACV are no big deal, 2 10mm nuts for the actuators, and 2 10mm bolts and 1 nut for the ACV, and they are off. The gaskets are in most cases fine and reusable for these things too. Just make sure to remove any and all pieces of old gasket that may be stuck to the manifold or the housings, before installing the new gasket. Even a slight piece of old gasket can cause a HUGE vaccum leak.
