question i need answered please.
alright heres the situation... my 90 gtu (which had a flooding problem) was sitting in the garage for many months, but not quite a year, until i finally found a shop that was close to me and reasonable in price so i could take it in for a rebuild. so he had it for 3 months, which was rediculous anyways and when i got it back, it ran worse than before the rebuild! so i take it back to him wanting him to fix it. i got an email yesterday, after him having it another month, saying that the problem was a bad injector, afm, o2 sensor, and CAS. so what i wanna know is: can these sensors can go bad just from being out of use for those months in my garage? please, i need some responses! thanks!

no, he's full of **** and making up stories for why the car runs like *** because he has no clue. at least when i have no idea i tell my customer i haven't a clue because we are only human and regardless of what we may think we all do not know everything.
btw, where is this shop located anyways?

I agree, the odds of the AFM and the CAS both failing at the same time are like 5 billion to one. He is just swapping parts, trying to figure it out.

the shop is speedmachine performance in Vista, CA. so its like i owe even more $ now cuz of this thing than i did just for the engine. how can i deal with this? anyone know of a legal route maybe?

Are you for real??? You brought me a non running FC to build the engine. I did that, and there was another problem with it. I told you that I don't work on stock FC's, and that there were no check engine codes so run it by mazda to get diagnozed (again, I don't work on stock FC's) You take it to your friend of the family mechanic who says that the air filter has too much oil (which it did, but I never took it out since it was in the stock airbox and I didn't have to remove it to install your motor) the bottom end made noise (didn't know the rotary has a botom end) and that bolts were missing (the engine was barely together it was missing so many bolts when I got it)
I did troubleshoot it by replacing things that didn't meet factory peramitors. The air temp sensor in the AFM didn't have any reading, IE it was broken. Replaced it. Fuel injector plug was all mangled so we replaced it with another known good unit so the clip would stay on the injector. Your O2 sensor was just hammered and needed to be replaced, it wasn't a cause for the engine problem. The trailing coils were also acting weird, and I replaced them with another known good set and replaced the CAS as well since the plug to it was also broken. I didn't charge you for the coils, or the crank angle sensor. I also didn't charge you for the over 50 hours of working on it either.
I TOLD you in the beginning that I don't trouble shoot stock FC's, and that it was hit and miss. I NEVER bullshitted you. I can think of alot of ways you could have handled this, one of which is to call me...but I guess you thought that this would help you?? Makes me so happy to go out of my way for people when they do this... I asked you to pay for 6 hours of labor, a used fuel injector, AFM and a new O2 sensor from the parts store. All at what I paid for them, and this is the thanks!

But 3 months dude? I mean i understand your situation too dont get me wrong. But why would you have a car that long just for a simple rebuild? Just curious thats all, not trying to start ****.

That's a fair enough question. We were burried with work here. And to top it off, I had to replace his rear iron because the outer coolant seal groove in the iron was worn through to the point that it had rotted and rusted totally away. I had to order that iron through Mazda, which took me 3 weeks to get. I kept him updated with everything the whole time I had it. I had 6 cars here before him when it got here. I spent at least 2 weeks waiting for the right bolts just so we could get the car back together and replace all the wrong bolts that were on the car to begin with. If it would have been the only car here, and just the fact of a simple rebuild it would have been in and out in a week or two max, but that wasn't the case and he knew that when he dropped it off.
BTW, this is the kicker. The person that did in fact fix it finally was Dale Clark...you might have heard of him? He was visiting me while he was in LA with his wife, and I asked him to troubleshoot it for me since his knowledge on factory FC's is pretty damn good. The labor you are paying is the money that I paid Dale for fixing your damn car. The parts was what I paid. I actually lost money to try to get your car at 100%, and this is what I get in return...awesome.

I feel you dude. I have actually been to your shop awhile back, I am from Phoenix by the way. I have always heard good things about you and yes i have heard of Dale. And it sounds like to me that we have a very enexperienced rotary owner on our hands.
But at the same time i do understand his dilemma. But you know as well as i do there is always 2 sides to every story.
Anyways like i said i do not wish to start a back and forth war, i was just curious about the lenght of time and now it makes sense.
Hope that you guys can resolve this matter in a positive manner and we can all live in harmony.
Thanks for letting me share. Peace......

I totally understand his side as well. Why would I go out of my way, and lose money trying to make someone happy? The customer always comes first, but I guess we can't always please everyone. Thanks for your input on it.

**** happens, i know what it's like to be on both sides since i also run my own shop and seeing it from a customer's point of view. sometimes there is just no winner and no way to make either party happy since there is no possible way to know how much work a car will need to begin with. i also have spent countless hours of my own personal time to try and fix issues to keep customers happy, it just comes with the territory i guess..
