question for the experts!

i just installed a rebuilt engine in my 91' rx7 non turbo. when i accelerate in gear, it knocks. when in neutral, if i stomp the gas, it knocks for just a second, then revs normally. it revs fine if i press the gas slowly. i drove it down the street and does fine til i start to accelerate, then it knocks and seems to start skipping. any ideas??? thanks in advance and please keep in mind, i am new so the abbreviations are not familiar yet.

Check your spark plugs wires to make sure they are in the correct positions.
Switching the T1 and T2 spark plugs wire positions will cause the problems you describe.

You might want to also double-check the ignition timing, as per Mazda spec.
