question on engines

well here is what i have a 88 GXl with around 171,133 miles on it, gets around 14-15mpg on the street right now with the mods that are on it. I also have another engine on the side of my parents house that has around 60,000 miles on it. my question is since the engine that in the car now is fine should i run that one until it dies, or should i swap in the other one and rebuild the one thats in the car now? THanks for you help. Matt22

Rebuild the one with 60k on it, swap it in, then rebuild the current one and have a spare or sell it.

IF it is sitting beside your parents' house, it is probably junk by now, unless it has just sat for a couple months or less. Humidity and water do terrible things to the internals very quickly. Mileage is not a factor when it comes to rust.

^ has the right idea.

How long has the 13B core sat outside your parent's house? Keep your fingers crossed that it's not useless just yet...if you have a garage, best move you can make is get it in there if it hasn't sat for too long already.

Anybody storing an engine for more than a couple of weeks NEEDS to inject some form of oil, MMO, atf, or the like into the plugholes and rotate the engine from time to time. The oil will coat the internals and displace water and humidity, and probably even keep all the seals lubed up and able to move (like they must in a working engine).

Wouldn't putting oil in the plug holes be more beneficiary to the core?
