question about wiring

Okay, I went yesterday to look at an FC with my mom(im 17). It is a 1988 N/A with full exh. w.o cats/res. , maf filter adapter , tokico struts and I cant remember the springs that are on it but they are a good brand , interior is fully gutted with front and rear tower braces and two mazdaspeed racing seats with 4pt harnesses , short shifter , and i think thats about it. He said that when he bought it, the guy he bought it from said it needed a new flywheel, he replaced and it worked fine. Then the ecu went out, so he (current owner) replaced it and it worked fine. Then shortly after that, some wire(s) going to the fuel pump either shorted out or arent connected right. He said that he can bypass the wire and it will crank but wont drive for a while. So my question is, what do you think the problem is? Ive searched around here and on aaroncake's site but cant find anything similar to this problem. This is going to be a project car so when i get it i am more than likely going to do the s5 intake manifold conversion. So while i am doing that i am going to check the fuel pump wiring and what not. thank you for the help...

So the fuel pump doesn't work unless it's wired to always on? Seeing as how the ECU blew I would guess that there is a short somewhere in the system and seeing as how the fuel delivery system isn't working right it's prolly the fuel pump or injector wiring. That new ECU could very well be fried since he never fixed what fried the old one.
