Question about tranny rebuild.......

Hello all. I'm new to the forum, but not to RX-7s. I have two 2nd gen models (one currently has a bad engine water seal ) and the other I'm rebuilding the tranny on currently.

I have a question for any experts on tranny rebuilding. I have it pulled apart and am currently trying to get the 5th/reverse gear hub off of the main output shaft. Mazda decided that this would be a good place to put a lock nut (the kind you bend the metal lip down to lock). The nut is recessed slightly in the hub, is quite large (maybe 2"), and you cannot get a socket on it beacuse the shaft is way too long. Anyone know what I'm talking about and have any advice on how to remove it? TIA

BTW - The car is an 88 NA GXL model.
