Question about S5 and Prelude CAI

The pics I've seen of member's cars with this I notice there isnt a AFM. Is it not needed with the Prelude intake setup?

And for an S4 you just need a square-->circular adapter for the AFM, correct?

One more question...how much better is having the actual filter in the wheelwell vs isolated with a box and a tube coming FROM the wheelwell? I'm just concerned about rain soaking the filter.

Water really isnt anything to be worried about.

It could be that you saw a pic of someone's 7 that is running a standalone, then the AFM isnt needed.

my plan is to route some dryer duct from the wheel well to the filter to get cold air there. i dont want the filter hard to get to, and im worried about water and snow.

i drove down the rode with the peice of tube out the window to see how much air goes through it. if the tube is somewhere where it can scoop air it will get ALOT of air through. i was surpised how much the 4?" hole got.i think it would get more than enough cold air to the filter.

Pep Boys sells a AFM adapter for our cars for like 10 bucks I picked one up along with a couple of couplers cuz Im gonna have a local exhaust shop bend me some 3in pipe for the custom intake. I plan on wraping the pipe with high heat tape and painting it cuz I dont like the look of the tape. Would this help n e with cold air going into the intake? and will the paint stick to the tape? Or should I just run a piece of that flexible hose to the short ram intake I have now?

No need to go to a muffler shop. At Home Depot you can get a flexible, rigid aluminum 3" tube for 7 bucks. Like this only 3":
