If you try to explain offset and backspacing, they get all confused.

FWD and RWD wheels have different offsets. FWD hubs are positioned further outboard further outward, most likely because of the requirements of fitting CV joints for steering and driving.
Generally (although not always) if you stick RWD wheels on a FWD car they'll stick out too far and if you stick FWD wheels on a RWD car they'll won't stick out far enough.
Try them and see. You might get lucky.

Second gen rx-7's already have a 'FWD' type offset at +45(?)
Mitsubishi magna's have (nearly) the same offset, they are FWD...
There are probably more aswell.. in fact I know there are..
But as has already been said, it is just a grose generalisation because the common joe doesn't understand about offsets.
Just try it and see... or else post what width they are and what offset they are and i'm sure we could work it out for you, but the best way is to always just try it and see.
Edit: hehe, Just noticed you said you did already try them and they fit fine.. ok my bad move along people, nothing to see here.
If they fit fine then there is no problem.. unless they have a radically different offset then stockers... If they do you may stuff up your hanlding a bit.

heh, thanks guys. before i posted i called a local tire shop guy and he gave me some bs about how he would never install fwd rims on a rwd and visa versa... but when i asked him why he mumbled incoherently for a bit then hung up.. so i assumed he didnt know what he was talking about and was only saying what the tire companies wanted him to say.
needless to say i bought the rims and they work just fine. just fine. thanks all.
