Question about Japanese Automatics

In Japan all FC's were turbo, so therefore there must have been automatic TII's (since I get them in fairly often in my J-Spec motor shipments)

The question at hand is:

Do the N/A US-Spec trannies fit on the J-Spec TII trannies?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Short answer? I don't think it's ever been definitively answered. Chris Meadors, IIRC, was looking for info on the J-spec auto TII tranny computer for his auto TII vert, but never really got any.

So, any aussies, kiwis, or rising-sun-ians (cuz "Jap" is supposedly a "bad word" now) wanna chime in?

I had an '88 T2 auto, and i'm from New Zealand.

Many autos were sold in the Australian market, both N/A and Turbo. In fact, most of the 2nd gen. 7's i see around are auto.

I even looked at a 1st gen auto when i was looking for my new 7, not that i considered buying it.

Presumably these cars are the same as the Japanese models.

I since sold the auto RX for a manual of similar vintage, but it is much more fun to drive.

I believe the trannys will bolt right up, though the auto tranny has a different cross-member from the manual, so some mods will be necessary for a manual-auto or auto-manual conversion.

I am not sure of your question. do you wann know if a J-spec turbo auto mission will fit on a U.S. -Spec NA engine? If that is your question, I don't see why it would be a problem.

The drive shaft will need to be changed, and quite possibly the Tranny mounts at least.

Let me clarify my question. If someone has a US automatic RX-7, and they wanted to install an automatic J-Spec engine of the same series, would the automatic engine from Japan bolt up to the automatic tranny from the US.

I think the answer is yes, but I was just looking for clarification before I told others that

I am most positive that it will. The housings and mounting configuration is the same.

Aah, that makes more sense! The answer is YES! The 13B's all have the same bolt pattern at the back.

They use Turbo-spec auto boxes, just like there are different manual boxes for NA and Turbo. Automatic Turbos are quite common in Japan, and hence here as well (as imports). They go quite well (nice tight coverter) but it's still an auto...
