My engines out on my 87 RX7 NA. I decided to take the liberty of replacing the front transmission cover that covers the front input shaft bearing and when I removed the cover, this shim came out with it. It's obviously damaged (it was crushed like an accordion) on one side and went I went to flatten it out, it broke (which you can see in the photo).
My question is ... does anyone know where this shim goes? I assume it goes onto the input shaft bearing race as demonstrated below. I found this image from my google searching.
Second question is trickier. Does anyone know the part #? Or what this part might be called? Where I might be able to purchase?
After doing some digging, i found a comment on facebook.
"It is a select fit shim . available in various thickness ...use as required to adjust shaft end play. It is a very inexpensive part, less than 5 dollars. An online search seems to indicate the part number is active and you should be able to source at Mazda dealer. --- Mazda pn# 999636310= .1mm thickness ----Mazda pn# 999636315 = .15 mm thickness ----- Mazda pn#999636330 = .3 mm thickness"
Im getting mixed signals as to whether this part is necessary or not though hahah

you do need it. it is part of what sets the endplay for that part of the transmission. just measure yours and buy a new one, they are $1 in Japan, so probably like $5 here
If you leave it out, the input shaft can slop forward just enough and chew off the 4th gear clutch splines on the input shaft by contacting the countershaft input gear.
