question about atkins apex seal.

ive read that they are softer then oem. softer metal. so how many miles will they last in street driving conditions. Also if they are made of softer material why so many drag racers use them?

turbo & high-tech performance DEC03

A softer seal (i.e. iron deposit material) will wear into the housing efficiently, causing better compression for the motor. These generally wear out rapidly.

Atkins seals are made of a mixture of steel and other materials. Atkins claims that their seal is superior to the factory unit because of the larger surface area located at the tip. Atkins claims that a larger surface area not only improves sealing, it reduces the chance of scoring the housing.

I also read that atkins also offers cryogenically treated seals for anyone running more than 15 lbs. of boost.
