Question Question about aluminum hood

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any way to tell for sure that you have an aluminum hood? I recently bought an `88 TII and I think it has an aluminum hood but I'm not 100% sure. I've heard conflicting things regarding them. Some people say that all TIIs had them but others say that some of the early ones didn't. I've tried to compare the weight with other cars and I think it's a lot lighter but I've never been able to do a side by side comparison because I don't know anyone else that owns an RX7. The only way I can compare is to lift the hoods on the ones in the junkyard here. Like I said, I'm pretty sure it's lighter, but I was hoping there might be some sort of markings so I can tell for sure.

can you lift it fairly easily with one finger?

That's how I knew. Otherwise, no distinguishing marks.

not all Turbo II's had aluminum hoods.
I think all S5's did, and most S4's but I'm not positive about the S5 remark.
And I believe all S5 Verts had aluminum hoods, dunno about 88 though.

And trust me, you'll know if its steel or not, mine is steel and its pretty heavy.

This is form fc3s-pro.com (RETed's site)
1987 Turbo II stock steel hood: used, windshield spray nozzles and hoses attached, all underhood insulation and front rubber flaps attached, 5A blue paint = 51.85#
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1987 Turbo II stock aluminum hood: used, NO windshield spray nozzles or hoses, all underhood insulation and front rubber flaps attached, hood stripped (NO primer base) and repainted yellow = 29.20#

Cool, it's aluminum. Luckily my neighbors didn't see me run out half-naked with a magnet in hand.

Also the hood latch is riveted to the hood if it is aluminum.

Some steel hoods have rivets.
