ques. about "black box" condenser near coil.

i want to know what it does. I just bought an 88 TII. The black box is broken. the ring is still connected by the bolt on the coil but the box and wire are broken off of the ring. Do i need a new "black box" if so where do i get one? Or can i connect the wire directly. Thanks.

it protects the circuit from unwanted electrical "noise" caused by the plug wires...
Mazdatrix has them...
DO NOT short the wire to ground...

since the igniter signal voltage from the ECU is on the order of 5 (I think) volts, any EMF-induced voltage spikes occuring in the wiring MIGHT trigger an unwanted spark firing, I'm not sure...Only thing I am sure of is it's there for a reason...

Oh yeh, it's also protecting the wiring for the 4 injectors...

sure, if ya know what you're looking for...there was a thread on a replacement capacitor for this a while back, see if you can search it out...I know I saw it on the Mazdatrix parts list, though...
