Question Q. What's this and what's it used for?

In my quest for RX-7 Knowledge I have hit a brick wall - ow. Can anyone tell me what this is and what it's used for? I can't seem to find it in the FSM...

That is the cold-start fluid reservoir.

Mazda has actually recommended removing the cold-start system because it doesn't work properly.

HMMM! good idea!

My GTU doesn't have one but my SE does.

What parts would I need off it to make a Intercooler sprayer? I'm doing a NA TII conversion to the GTU so this would be pretty spiffy to do.

It's really too small to be much of an intercooler spray. Only holds a little less then a litre....I would consider using the washer fluid resevoir. It's HUGE (4 litres).

To the original poster: the cold start is to be filled with a concentrated solution of coolant. In cold weather, it is sprayed into the intake to prevent icing...It's a really dumb idea, and most of them stopped working after a year. Mazda issued a TSB that says to pull the tank out and cap the nipple in the intake.

Thx for the info - yet another thing to remove and tidy up the engine bay.

sprayer

yes if you have the subzero it might be a good idea to use the zero tank for washer fluid, i dont know if youd need to use an inline pump as i havnt even looked to see where the pump is in relation to the resevoir tank.

i hardly use the washer fluid exect for in the winter so
it makes sense that i only need a little bit.
