Putting an s5 t2 shortblock into an s4 t2 , is it possible ? what do i need to know

I just got a 88 t2 that needs a rebuild and ive been looking around for a replacement engine if not ill just get it rebuilt...

I've been finding lots of s5 engines, i am assuming that you can put it in the s4 but what would i need to do it ? I was thinking i could just put all my s4 stuff on the s5 engine and get it to work (assuming everything bolts right on and everything).

The only things that really worry me are the tuning of the car , i dont know if it would run properly with the s5 motor on s4 electronics and possibly cause detonation from having higher compression. And also i know the s5 has electronic oil metering pump, can that be converted to s4 ?

Im not really sure what has to be done, for all i know i could have to redo my entire wiring harness to make the motor work...and that might not really be worth the hassle.

Been done many times. Use the S5 keg minus the front cover & the S5 manifolds. Swap the S4 front cover on so you can retain the mechanical OMP, then bolt all of the S4 electronics & TB on. You'll be running at a higher compression ratio than the S4 ECU was tuned for, so further modifications and boost levels need to compensate for this.

doesn't really seem like a job a novice like me should do, but i can look into it...i guess the s5 engines might be cheap/easy to find but for the cheaper price i might get it at , im making up for it in labor
