Putting a S5 into my 88 GXL
Ok so its that time of the year already, another motor blown. So i have a 1988 GXL with a racing beat header and presilencer. I am swapping out the blown motor for a Series 5 only because i am getting a decent deal on one.
I have the following items Series 5 Longblock (taking the A/C off) S5 ECU and harness, and a Series 5 lightweight flywheel and clutch.
I was just wondering if i can use the lower intake manifold off an s4 to keep the 5/6th port actuation via exhaust backpressure. And put the s5 upper intake manifold? and how to actuate the VDI?

First off, you can't use the s5 harness and ECU. To do so you would have to swap out ALL of the wiring/electrical system for s5 stuff, which is a monumental PITA. You have to swap over the s4 front cover and OMP and keep the s4 TB (which is pretty simple). See explanation here: http://rotaryresurrection.com/2ndgen...o_s4_swap.html
Also, you can keep the s4 LIM and use the S5 UIM, but you have to re-drill a hole and drind something off the TB. And to operate the VDI you can use an RPM switch and a small air pump or something. Here is how to do it: http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=63&co=1&vi=1. Ignore the fact that is says you are installing it on an s4 block. Once you swap over the front cover, your block is identical to an s4 one (excpe the EGI is not there.) The directions will work just the same.
