Putting in A/C
ok, so most of you just take it out, but when I bought my car mine was completely dry-rotted, and it's hard to have a daily driver in Florida without ac, let alone a black one. anyway I bought a complete new system for $350 (saved me about $1400 and it's all factory new) but as of right now it's sitting in the box in my living room. I would install it myself, but my dad tells me that I need a vacuum pump to hold the vacuum, and so my question is do I really need to hold the vacuum when I'm installing it? can't they just do the vacuum when I go to have it charged? I don't really feel like spending $400 to have it installed...
I never had a vacuum pulled on my system, and it works fine...It wont work AS good as if I had the vacuum pulled, but it blows plenty cold.
You car should only hold about 27 Oz. of R-12. If you were here in Tucson, I would put it in for you.. Thats going to be the most expensive part..
So, put it in yourself. Then take it to the place to have it charged. They should be able to pull the Vacuum and charge it for approx $100-150.

It will be ok for you to put in the complete system and let the A/C shop pump in the vacuum and add freon.
Try not to leave the drier open to the atmosphere any longer than necessary. Make it the last thing you connect the hoses to.
