put new grounds on 86 (Q)

So I got one of those grounding kits off of ebay with the cap thing all the wires attach to. It has big blue wires. Anyways I replaced the ground on the firewall and under the air box and i ran some to other spots in the engine bay. I couldnt locate some of the grounds so i took the negative terminal clamp thing (descriptive eh? lmao) and put it in the new ground cap. So in theory i is using all the old grounds plus the new ones. I went to check all the electronics. I checked the radio and it was working. SO then i started it up, i got the usual white smoke at first lol then it idled at 1.5k untill it warmed up and then it dropped to 700. I gave it ample time to warm then i gave it alittle gas. It sounded good then when it was returning to idle i heard *pop pop pop* like a little backfire or something. It wasnt very loud. It seems to be coming fromt he exhaust, it never did this before so what gives????
