pulleys and belts

Ok I have asked a few questions now and I want to thank everyone for their help. this is the best board I have been on in a long time. I get such speedy answers that are helpful. Ok next question. Whoever owned the 87 tII before I did eliminated the a/c pulley but its still mounted. I am removing it and my car is not equiped with ps so there are only three pulleys in the look. The crank, alt and the air pump I assume(pulley on the pass side with a horizontal belt). SO I have a new turbo back that wont need that air pump(will keep it for 2 years down the road when i have to pass emmisions again but can i just use one belt that runs from the crank to the alt? And if so does some one have a part number for that or will I ahve to do it the old fashion way and measure it with a string?? thanks everyone

Yes you can use one belt that goes from the main pulley to the alt. This is just a normal alternator belt, go into any auto parts store tell them you need an alt belt for your make/model/year and they'll get it for you just fine.

If you remove your airpump it is a good idea to either get a dual alt pulley and run 2 alternator belts in this same fashion, or at least get a yoohoo belt (search 2nd gen forum for "yoohoo belt" or go to 1300cc.com and find it there). Otherwise at high rpms the belt could slip on the waterpump and cause you problems.

You can also remove those extra pulleys on the main pulley if you want (the AC and PS ones) by just removed the bolts inside the center of the pulley, taking the extra pulleys off, and putting the bolts back in.

Racing Beat makes a main lightweight 2 sheeve underdive pulley as well as an alternator underdrive dual pulley. The main pulley will only be a good idea if you see high rpms a lot, otherwise it's probably not a great idea to underdrive your waterpump and such. Lots of people have charging problems when underdriving the alternator, too, because 2nd gens had low capacity alternators, so I'd just go with a normal dual alt pulley, not underdriven, for the alternator.
