PS continuous beep, searched and not in FAQ

Hi there,

my PS computer just keep buzzing all the time. There's infos about beep sequences, no for a continuous beep.
Is something dead there?

Thanks
Matthieu

Hello gentlemen,

before I was driving my S4 without the buzzing computer, steering was firm but not very heavy.
Now, for power, fuel economy and mainly low RPMs drivability (I know my RE deserve high RPMs driving...) I've removed the PS' belt.
It's very hard to turn, I need to buy arms. I felt more throttle response, maybe the weather, maybe not.
That means what? Belt applies any presure in circuit wich help lighten the steering?
Any harm to drive like this beside my muscles?

I still don't know (want... lazy...) how to fix it, so prior to fit a manual steering (what changes? Only rack or more?) I want to drive with less problem possible.

Thanks guys,
Matthieu

There is a proper way and an improper way to depower the steering rack. Search for depowered steering rack and you will find the information you seek.

If you want to do it the simple, easy way, just connect the two hardlines on the rack together. This will create a path for the steering fluid from one side of the "piston seal" in teh rack to teh other. Right now you are compressing the fluid and forcing it past the seal.

Hope this helps!

Also, the beeping my be from low coolant or low oil sensors.

It does!

But the beep is form the PS computer, not from gauges cluster (redline) nor the CPU (lights), is it this buzzer also?

Buzzing device is this:

The "device" is the power steering computer. You can pick them up for around $30. IF you get a good one that will solve your beeping problem and the PS should work again. Just did this repair to mine = everything works well. I just placed a WTB ad here the PS computer and several guys came back with reasonably priced parts. I'd give it a shot.

hey im having the same problem but it only seems like it happens on cold starts. in the morning my car will buzz and the steering may or maynot be hard. Later after the engine is warm like i drive it again 30 min later it should be good, no buzzing and ps is smooth and easy. would the ps computer fix that and where can i get one?

i have that issue. the beeping not buzzing is from the computer and is explained on the 2nd Gen FAQs. i had a 5 beep code, alignment error i suppose. anywho, since it was just that i didnt really mind. sometimes just doesnt even register to my head when driving but somedays i just unplug it, but comparing to a manual rack. its alot easier to drive i guess because the PS is still pumping and stuff. but if i plug it back in, smooth drive and minutes later... it starts beeping again. i also remembering reading somewhere on how to reset it. dont remember now though.
