Cool Proud owner of a FC..finally!!

I just got my first RX-7 today!! Waiting a long time for a clean car like this one. Gorgeous new paint...bought it from 3Rotors (with 20B conversion), very, very, nice guy! Anyway, I had a question about the engine...lady that owned it before drove it real easy for her little cruizer car I guess (but it did get driver, just never so high side of say 4k very much). This kind of worries be to some extent b/c of carbon build up in housing and on apex seals. So what I'm asking if I should like try slowly breaking motor into higher revs, like take it easy on for a while, then give it some good 2nd gear 5k's pushes, etc. Or, has it been driven to long like that, and I should wait until the motors pops and get a Atkins. I have 1,400 dollars left over. Any input would be greaty guys/gals. Thanks.

1986 Mazda RX-7 GXl, 5sp, 140,000 miles, gorgeous paint/body, clean motor (from outside).

hmmm nice! real nice! do you know what paint that is?

as for the engine, easing it into the higher rev range sounds like a fairly good idea, just to make sure the apex seals get the chance to free up a bit, I would probably wait for one of the other guys to give you a better reply though as I dont have that much experience with this kind of stuff.

hehe...sorry for the confusion guys, but thank you very much for all the compliments on the car! When I posted I was a bit excited still about the ride, just had gotten her home. But what I meant was that 3Rotors, the guy I bought the car from (who is on this forum) has a 20B in his 10th ann. TII. And the lady before him that owned my car, was the one I was saying drove it real easy, so its still the orginaly 13B in the car, lol, no 20B..but I wish. Thanks again for the compiments, with that, and rotary guys wanna help with what I could do to try and ensure theres not alot of carbon build up, etc. in motor from being driven easy so I can have fun with it? Mine its like a honored privelege for me to finally have one!!

Damn, I wish my paint was that nice. Sweet buy! Can't wait to see it.
BTW: When you change the oil a little MMO in the crankcase (oilpan) will help clean some of that carbon up.

If you are that worried about the carbon build up do the ATF trick. Just do a search there is only about a million posts on it. Nice rig

I wouldn't suggest the ATF trick unless he's planning on taking the exhaust off (it'll clog cats) and changing plugs and O2 sensor soon. It's a nice thing to fall back on if you have problems, but alot of people try the ATF trick when they don't really need to, and it could end up causing more problems with sensors and clogging cats and all than using MMO or some other additive and seeing if that works.
btw: I love that color. That's the color of my first car (89 Mx6) I was hoping to get this car painted and debating changing to that color, but if I get it painted, I think I'm gonna stick with Red.

Thanks again from the compliments guys, I really like this car. The paint is extremely nice too, it was painted again 2 years ago, a couple grand job I guess. I've been taking it easy on the car, but it pulls fine past 4k so, I think I'm just gonna take it easy for a bit. Theres some much controversy about the ATF trick being good or bad though, if I do try it, I will change plugs 02 sensor, etc. (probably ATF will be last resort though). Nothing feels wrong with motor though, no wierd noises, great idle, 6ports working. Has a bonez cat with 2.5 piping all the way. I'm gonna to do a compression test and see what I get (just to be safe), but I plan on bolt on's. I have 1,400 left over, so not sure if I should just wait and try for a ported Atkins motor or what. Thanks again.

Matlock: You'll get to see her soon, and I wanna see your 7's too man.

Take my advice and do not put ATF into your engine. Just follow standard breakin procedures and you'll be fine.

But nice car!

Nice car and good luck

If its running good, baby it for a while like a break in. No need for ATF. I agree with the "easing it into the higher rev range".

$1400 left over:
spark plugs/wires
air/fuel filters
2000 mile oil/filter changes or sooner
Antifreeze/thermostat--classic coolant(green) and genuine Mazda OEM thermostat--no flush/chemicals needed if car isn't experiencing any cooling issues.

Monitor oil usage(car is oil injected)-run a little premix(mmo or 2stroke) until you can verify oil injection is working. Or disable MOP and run full premix.
Couple bottles of quality FI cleaners after the fuel filter is changed.
Test 6-ports actuators to make sure they are working.
Always make sure car is warmed up before shutting off.

Also, if your serious about a rebuild(that you currently don't need), I think that it is best to rebuild a good running engine(like yours) instead of waiting for it to 'pop'.

After this, then you can mod like hell

Re: Proud owner of a FC..finally!!

Marcus,

You don't need to do a thing to that car except maintain it. The car is pretty much flawless. I drove it back from Sevenstock with Rx7passion (on this forum). The car is, for lack of a better word, perfect. Don't worrie about the carbon, or changing the coolant. Just take the car as it is and take care of it. Enjoy it, and drop a line when you want to start moding it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definetly take care of her, only thing I noticed now is a little play in the shifter, just gonna replace bushings/boots. Yeah, Brad is a very cool guy and I know he took extremely good care of the car. Ill take the advice on the ATF too.

The MMO (marvel mystery oil), wanna fill me in on what this is n' does? What is it gas/oil mix, like 2-stroke?

I'm going do a compression test just for the hell of it (even though I'm sure its good), already has 2.5 piping through Bonez cat to muffles, right now i was just gonna buy a intake and adapter and ditch stock air ducts and box. Then maybe buy a Apex-i N1 (w/silencer) and go single. Good idea for start?
