That is AWESOME! The Mariah Mode 6 is the only kit I like. In fact, there is a high probability that my car will be sporting one sometime in the future.
That wing though...It would look so much better with a wraparound style "F40" type wing.
At that power level, plan on a different turbo. The GT35R would need to be at around 25 PSI on an efficient engine with a good tune to make 500 wheel HP. That's well past the point of reliability. Go with the GT40R, which will put down 500 wheel HP at around 18 PSI.

Yes I am Tyrels brother..need to keep the rotary fever going in the family. I will try to get some more pics or the car this week. About to start the buildup on the motor. Going to go with the Turblown kit with a Garrett gt35r. Elliot has a nice shop and says 550hp will be no problem and no turbo lag.

The 35R is a great turbo for a reliable 400HP at reasonable boost levels (16-18 PSI on a street port). If you want more, use a turbo more appropriately sized.

There is no way that a GT35R (and I'm talking an off the shelf 35R, not some kind of crazy hybrid) will put out a reliable 550HP. The only way you will see that power out of that turbo is at 25 PSI, on a good tune, with a big street port and aux injection. And at that boost level, with the size of turbine needed for 550HP, there will be noticeable lag.

Nobody have experience yet. Based on compressor maps 550rwhp will take between 22-25psi with aux injection, very large SP, ignition upgrades, big exhaust, open wastegates etc...
I am not the only one who has done well in excess of 500rwhp on a GT35R...

I also spotted someone made 535rwhp here with a standard off the shelf unit @ 23~ish psi if I recall correctly.

That's my fundamental issue with running a turbo like the 35R to get over 400HP. High boost pressures and aux injection...High boost pressures impact reliability, and aux injection is somewhat of a "bandaid" for that. Plus it make take longer (just guessing on this one) for the 35R to reach 22-25 PSI to make those power levels then, say, a 40R to reach 18 PSI for those power levels.

Is the issue with the 35r reaching 550 whp running 22 psi up? I'm sure nobody is implying the 35r isn't capable of those numbers. As far as streetable turbos go the 35r is a great turbo.

Pictures of the clean Mariah Rx7.
The car is in great shape as you can see except I am not too fond of the Amemiya Red seat. If anybody wants it I would like to sell it. The engine bay is calling for the GT35R turbo.....Mmmm...hope you guys like the pics. Sorry for the delay.

I don't think it looks like a Porsche at all. The front end has always looked like a MkIII Supra though which was the current Supra at that time. I think the Mariah kit overall looks pretty nice. It is tough and aggressive looking. It looks like an '80's Japanese supercar which is appropriate as it is an 80's car. I am personally not a big fan of that rear wing but that isn't a big deal to change if so desired. The styling definitely isn't modern or current but it looks very nice and appropriately fits the era of the 2nd gen RX-7.
Aside from the wing, my biggest issues with this car are relatively minor. I don't like having a different driver's seat from the passenger seat. I like them to both be the same. I would also rather have them not be red. That's an easy fix. What's up with that spare tire??? My last issue is really another thing from the era. It's that crazy overly long intercooler piping. I never understood why you'd want to run it that way. That too is an easy fix.
My issues with the car are fairly minor and overall I think it is a great find. It should be lots of fun. It will definitely turn heads of course for different reasons with different people. I'll bet it would be a big hit at local club meets.

Well said...Red seat is coming out and turbo build being done. I got the car because it is rare, has tons of money put into it already, and good platform for high hp motor.
