Dont remove the charcoal canister, it doesnt weigh anything and will be a wasted effort. The canister is a part of the fuel vapor recovery system. If you remove the canister and plug the lines you pressure the fuel tank, and if you leave the lines just hanging there you will be venting fuel vapor. Just leave it alone. It does no harm and offers no gain by removing it.

I'm with cymfc3... the lines will emit fuel vapor and if your vent is open on your dash you'll smell fuel and wonder where the leak is.

Cold start? Hey! This is Texas. Cold is 60 degrees. I've ripped mine off each and every car and put a home made blockoff plate over where it was installed with JB Weld. Never had a problem starting here due to the cold. Rid yourself of it.

Yeah, get rid of the cold start system. California cars don't come with them, but mine was from New Mexico. There were no problems without it.

If by cold start system you mean the anti-freeze injection bottle and pump etc by all means remove it.Mazda issued a TSB in Canada years ago to remove it.

I haven't had a cold start system in my car for 4 years here in NY, where the winters get very cold. I've never had any problems. I removed my charcoal canister, but I capped the hard pipe that goes back to the fuel tank.

How does the cold start system work?

I know it injects antifreeze somewhere, but how does it know when to do it and exactly where does the antifreeze go?
