Project Help

Hey, I'm new to the RX-7 world and I bought a project car last year, but I'm not quite sure what I should do next, so I'm hoping someone can maybe point me in the right direction. the car is an '86 RX-7 GXL bought last spring for $500 as my first car, and me and my dad worked on it a bit, but aren't really sure what to do with it. It is in pretty good condition, a bit of rust on the body, interior isn't bad but needs some parts replaced, but seems fixable overall.
Heres some pics of when I first got the car:

Well basically what we did since then was grind the rust off and put fiberglass/body filler over it and it looks alright, but the main problem is the engine. We tried to get it running with no luck, then we found out the compression is pretty much gone, so we took everything apart except the engine block. Now we aren't sure if we should try and put it all back together and try and get it running, get the engine rebuilt, or convert the car to a turbo. The car is intended to be an everyday car for me to drive to school in the fall, so speed isn't really that important, although I would like it to be quick. So what would be recommended to get this car running efficiently and how should we go about doing it? Also, are there any places to get parts around the Ottawa area?

Any suggestions are appreciated, I really want to get this car to work!

Rebuild the motor, maybe do a streetport. Just do some basic mods, it will have that little oomph your looking for. You could always go turbo, but na is going to be more reliable/practical for everyday driving/school. I used to daily drive my t2 and my gxl, and they were both a blast to drive. If you're just getting into rotaries, just check around here and read up about them, stick with na for now until you are comfortable with them.

Hey, thanks. Now the question is, where can I get my engine rebuilt in Ontario/Quebec? Is there any Rx-7 specialty shops?

And another question I have, how is the winter driving in these cars? Should I get winter tires or should I just find a different car to drive in the winter?

As for shops by you, I have no clue, check the regional forum see if anyone has any shops listed. I drove mine in the winter and it wasn't all that bad. I mean, it's a rwd sports car and snow. If you can drive safely and not act like the little drifto kids you should be fine. Then again, I don't know how much snow you get up there, when it get's really bad over here, I don't drive the 7. I also bought a jeep for the winter.
