Project GTUs-R (Conversion of a 90 GTU)

My goal is to take the car I already had and convert it to the performance of a GTUs while building a mild track car. I want it to end up lighter than a stock GTUs. Including some mild reliable power upgrades.

I am not planing on trying to defraud somone into thinking it is an authentic GTUs and sell it. My goal is not to make it into something it is not from a collectors point of view.

I DO want to have the performance that mazda intended when they designed the GTUs while making it more track suitable. This is the car I am learning how to road race on.

Started with a 77k mile 1990 GTU bone stock.

Things done so far as part of the GTUs conversion:
1. Full turbo II S5 suspension. I actually pulled the springs from my own S5 TII and made sure it was the bigger sway bars (it already was).
2. 16" rims
3. 4-pot front calipers
4. Aluminum Hood (N/A)
5. Vented rear disks (with TII rear calipers)

Things that make it a GTUs-R :
-Racging Beat downpipe, presilencer, cat back.
-APEXi Power Intake
-APEXi S-AFC II
-Polyurethane suspension bushings
-Corksport front strut tower bar
-225/50-16 tires on 16" rims.
-some various minimial weight reductions
-stainless steel brake lines

Coming soon....
-Miata Torsen Diff with 4.3 gear set
-deeper 5th gear ratio with transmission rebuild
-cage/rear strut bar combo
-5 point harnesses
-true racing seats (non adjustable backrest)
-TII body elements starting with front lip spoiler (or maybe the corksport MS copy)
-paint job

I would post pics but visually it dosn't look that much different from a GTU right now other than the wheels and calipers.

Comments? Questions?

hmm...first thing that would make my car a track car would be some struts/springs or perhaps coilovers...

This is a starter car. It has upgraded dampers but I don't want to change anything else in case I decide to try to conform to a stock class type setup.

Plus I want to learn the car in stock config before making changes or start tracking my more highly modified TII.

After doing track stuff for about a year now (4-5 events) I think brakes are always first priority. Then maybe tires.
