Progress on Rebuild.. but Cleaning sucks! (long)

Well I've almost got the big parts all cleaned up... except the 2 rotor housings. I have all the irons, the front cover and the 2 rotors cleaned as best I could using a combination of parts cleaning solution(mineral spirits) and a gallon of carb cleaner. My parts(rotors) did not come out as clean as Bruce Turrentine's(after 24h+ of soaking in the carb cleaner... I was a little disappointed) but they seem decent... Now have a few questions. In the ports of the center housing there were the two plastic things that stuck down and held the fuel injectors... What would happen if one were to accidently break one(or both) of those plastic suckers off? Are they replaceable? What happens if you run with out them... Of course this is purely hypothetical since no one would be careless enough to break both off ...

One of the apex seal grooves seems to be out of shape a bit, it is wider at one end than the other... but not by much, and the first 0.5cm on the wider part side is bent up a bit, thus that side of the groove is wider. It never scored the rotor housings and all the apex seals were all there... It took me a while to notice... and the another 5 minuts of looking at it up close to see if this was the actual conditioon or if the parts cleaner fumes were getting to me... I know to make any judgements you need to see this but taking a pic of the rotor was like trying to photograph a UFO... all the pictures turned out blurry when trying to get that side but the rest of the pics on the digicam are fine... So how bad would it have to be to say that this rotor is un-useable?

Thats about it for now... I have some questions about iron conditions too, but I will post pictures later.

Thanks,
-Rob

Thats a bitch... do they just like slide up and out? Or is the removal process more involved than that? I need to do the rest of the tests on these irons before Ill think about replacing those... at least I know what they are called. Thanks for the info.

they just pull up and out, they are held in by a step and sealed with o-rings.

Your seal to groove clearance (Apex groove in the rotor) should be .07mm to .076mm anything more and the engines reliability will suffer. The diffusers are important they help atomize your fuel as well as provide solid ground for your injectors. Make sure to have your injectors cleaned as they could have been one of the reasons behind you doing the rebuild in the first place. Also remember to check all your measurements they are to say the least KEY for a strong engine rebuild.

you can get those from other core engines
