you dont need to drain the fluid. Just replace the master cylinder, fill it full of fluid and start bleeding the system. Youll need about 2 quarts to do a full system bleed.

bleed the abs box! My mechanic did the master cyl swap on my 1990 T2, (I couldnt get the flare nuts undone so I took it to him) and he didn't bleed the abs box. The pedal was mushy as all hell and when I did bleed the abs box, a shitload of bubbles came out and the pedal got nice and stiff. The right order to bleed in is to start with the caliper furthest from the brake pedal and move t the closest, and finish on the abs box. The speed bleeders can be bought from k2rd.com. The speedbleeders are replacement bleed screws with internal check valves, so you don't have to open and close them while bleeding, just open the one you want to bleed and start pumping the pedal.
