problems starting my N/A

I have a 1988 gxl and my car has problems starting up. When I push in the clutch and turn the key I doesnt start (acting as if I didnt have the clutch pushed in). But if I pump the clutch 2 to 4 times hard it will start. Ive had the master cylinder replaced about 1k ago and also had all the belts replaced along with the fuel pump that went out on me and the fuel filter. And the hydro fluid is full also. (the first thing I checked)
Any thoughts on what it might be????
thx

also this winter my step dad and I are goin to rebuild a N/A motor and I was wondering if I can rebuild a S5 N/A motor and drop it in with some fun stuff done to it (I want a 9k redline and a 14 sec 1/4 time)
What would be needed for this conversion??
What extra things should I add to the motor to achieve my goals???

There is a clutch switch that keeps the starter from engaging unless the clutch is to the floor. Make sure the floor mat isn't up under the pedal or something to start with. Second is the clutch switch itself - they do go bad over time.

The clutch switch that's the starter disable is WAY up high in the clutch pedal assembly - there's another switch that's easy to see, that's not it. The one you want is a black box with a white plunger. Follow it and there's a white 2-wire plug. Unplug it and jumper a wire across the harness side terminal - that will disable the clutch switch and take it out of the loop.
