Problems with rebuild

I just recently rebuild my s5 motor and dropped it back into the car. I was having problems starting it and used some starter fluid to get it started. It started right up, and smoke like a mother. It would not stay on so it led to believe I was not getting fuel. After some tinkerin with my fuel lines I got it all straigtened out. The car would not start now. I tried turning the motor by hand and it was pretty hard as opposed to earlier. Before I knew it became harder and eventually I could not even move it. I believe the starting fluid might of dried off all the components, but than again I also remember dropping a bolt that might of gone into the tranny housing but was never able to locate it. Would it be possible that the bolt is jammed between the starter and the wheel. Everytime I turn the key the engine does not even budge. I hear the starter engaging, the thing is only 3 days old. If so its something internaly, what do you guys think is the extent of the damage?

Try and move the engine by wrench backwards. If it was just a bolt hanging up the flywheel that should disengage it. But, I really doubt that a bolt dropped in to the housing would catch in the flywheel gear, but stranger things have happened.

I was able to turn it backwards but it eventually stopped. I cranked it again and the starter made a loud popping noise

Pull the starter and the little bellhousing inspection cover and see if you can find that bolt.

If you actually dropped something into the engine and it went through, whichever site it ended up in will be trashed.
