Unhappy problem with starting....

hey guys I have a little problem. I start my car after it`s been sitting for about 4days. She runs for a second or so and loses power(dies).
second time I start her she revs above 3k rpms, and it takes her longer time to warm up.
I have 86 gxl (n/a)....don`t know how many miles.
is this normal for n/a`s?

thanx

It's not the way it should happen. It should start the first time and rev to approx 3 grand and then subside after 17 seconds down to approx 1200 give or take and then gradually as the water heats up, drop down to approx 750.

It's a touch hard to say why the first time it died. It's probably a bac that is a little gummed up and the first start attempt just wakes it up and by the second try its up and running. On a cold start the bac goes wide open along with the Air Bypass Solenoid Valve for a period of 17 seconds. After 17seconds the Air Bypass Solenoids relay drops out and the bac's duty cycle drops down.

On a 86 this will only happen if the water temp switch located in the bottom left of the radiator is below a given temp. If the water temp is above the given temp it does not happen. If the water temp sw at the bottom of the radiator has one of it's leads off it won't happen and it the transmission is in gear it won't happen.

If you pull the wire/wires off the water temp sw at the bottom of the radiator to deliberatly disable this high rpm warmup you will also screwup the Relief Solenoid operation ....so don't ever do that.

Your car sounds more or less normal for a older car. It's not a serious problem just irritating.

Why did you remove the thermostat?? they're rather important to a proper functioning engine!
