problem with my 89 GTU

The problem: A few times in the last couple days, my car decides to smoke excessively with a thick white smoke upon start up. Thinking it would go away, i left it idleing untill warm up and it stayed smoking, blowing clouds out of my stock exhaust. Eventually, the smoke would go away after about 5 minutes of being warmed up and it ran like a champ again.

Today, however, I was about to leave school, and the smoking started when i started the car. Constantly kept spewing out so i moved to a place with less people and it took about 10 minutes of restarting the car before I could stop it. I made it back safetly and I stopped by my friends house. When I was about to leave, the problem started AGAIN! The only difference this time is that it wouldnt stop at all. There was no way that I could get home so I got another ride home and left my FC back there.

I've searched around the forums and so far have decided that it was my coolant seals and i need to get an engine rebuild.

What do you think it could be with this information:
1. excessive white smoke after warm up
2. power loss during times when it smokes
3. doesn't smoke during every start up

I know all of you are tired of answering this question, but i just wanna be sure. Sorry, but thanks in advance for your 2 cents of info.

ps.. sorry if this doenst make too much sense, i just woke up

man, i was in almost exactly the same boat like 2 years ago. 130k miles, white smoke, burning through coolant... eventually i blew a couple hoses and gave up. I just got a rebuilt motor and have it in, just wiring it up and hopefully it'll run in a week or 2.

as far as the tII swap, it's probably not worth it. you have to swap out a lot of stuff, not just the motor as far as I have gathered.
