Problem with ambient heat off
Drivetrain (sorry missed that typo in the title)
I've got an odd situation with heat coming off the drivetrain. I've recently bought a 90 vert off my father. For several years now this car literally eats shifter boots and I've inherited the problem. I believe I've put 3 or 4 of them on the car for my father in the past 7-8 years. I've owned 2 other verts and not had this same problem. I replaced one boot 7-8 years ago on my vert (2 diff cars)and it's still not dry, cracked, etc.
It simply seems like this particular car puts off a lot more heat. I can feel it coming up through the shifter hole. I can feel it around the transmission tunnel and in the lower center dash. Obviously some heat is natural but the heat with this car is more than the previou 2 verts I've owned. It's more than the vert my father currently owns. (Yes, my father and I have owned 4 verts between us)
The problem has taken on more importance because I have modded my headunit in the center dash. I've mounted the HU down on the lowest spot and put in a DIN gauge panel above that. I just put the gauges in within the last 2-3 days and instantly I started getting strange behavior from the HU. It gets very buggy after a little bit of driving and music listening.
Here's what I"m thinking is going on:
1) Combination of increased ambient heat on this particular car
+
2) HU being lowest on the center dash and closest to the heat
+
3) all the wiring and harnesses are on top of the HU
_____________
Problems!!
I'm curious who else has had ambient heat problems like this?
The only thing I can think of is the underbody of the car must be missing some heatshielding? But the car is nearly 100% OEM. My father owned the car since around 1991. The only major work it's had is a Mazda reman'd engine installed by a dealership and fresh paint.
The vert is due to have a turbo swap done. I'll be under the car soon enough to see if it's missing any shielding.

Gotta be shielding. I have partially failed boots on my 90 vert. and have had for 6 years. I just never had enough heat to cause me to buy the replacement parts.
I don't have excessive heat through the boot but then again, all of my exhaust shielding is in place.

Are all the rubber boots under the shift boot still in tact? Once these deteriorate and fall apart it lets alot of heat/hot air in. Mine have fell apart again along with the shift boot and at highway speeds you can feel the hot air coming up from the tunnel when it is warm outside.
