Problem after wreck.
A while back I wrecked my FC. Tire blew out and put me backwards into a ditch. A week or two after the wreck I came home from college and was messing with the car a little. My dad is usually greally grumpy and pessimistic, and even more so on the steroids for his cancer. He started going on about how my car was ruined and how he bet it couldn't start up and stuff...
But there was only some body damage and I kept telling him it'd be fine. Well, that weekend I got into the car and started it up. Revved up.. It really lifted my spirits to hear the good sound of a slightly ported rotary.
Then it went down to idle... ANd just cut off. Confused by this, I turned it on one more time.. Same result. So I stopped a second.. Turned it on.. And pressed the pedal. I was able to keep it running then. Well after holding it up and letting it move up and down the lower RPMs a little bit, I let it back down... It got to idle and just cut off yet again.
I think I did it one more time but don't remember by now... I remember by the ending there was a strong smell of concetrated exhaust (I think.. and I remember the exhaust was coming out a little dark and thick.
Well at the time I was talking to some others from the 7 club and they believed it could just be the fact that one of my muffler's tips was smashed in and it gave too much backpressure to idle.
Well I was real busy at college after that.. Dad wasn't supposed to go to many places and ended up spending a month near the hospital for a hardcore chemo treatment and stem cell transplant.... I didn't want Mom to take it out.. So it stayed at home still not fixed up.
3 weeks ago I got my car to the body shop of someone we know that does really good work and for a pretty decent price.. Told them that it couldn't idle and to cut off the exhaust tip...
Well, by now they were supposed to have begun work on it based on what they said. When I got there they had mainly taken some stuff off... and that was all. I went around back and saw that the tip had been cut off. I looked in and saw some dirt in it (which I later dug some out...).
The guy said they had tried to start it up but it gave the same problem that it had from me, and they'd cut the tip off at this point.
Any ideas what could be wrong?? I half wonder if maybe the dirt in there still caused the problem... But I'm also having the feeling that that could just be me trying to make an easy answer for now so I'll feel better...
Thanks.
