Problem with ABS light---

Last night I was driving and my ABS light came on again (it was always on when I bought the car) (after having my brakes looked at just recently...it is kind of interesting)

I did some tests...I shut off the car...turned it back on...and I could hear something like a pump cycling...then I figured it was my brakes or fluid...so I stepped on the brake and sure enough (KICK KICK KICK KICK)....I don't get it, I consulted the Haynes manual, but it isn't to clear.

The brake has only kicked back on 2 occasions...one at the drag races and one just last night.

but the light now is just on...but the brakes are just fine (reaction and 100 KPH braking distance is good)

Maybe something to do with just the electricals (I just had all the fluids changed and the brake pads checked (all %60 even)

My ABS light doesn't come on except when I start the car (and that's normal). However, when I hit the brakes in reverse I can feel the ABS kick in slightly. The ABS works great in normal situations, I tested it earlier this week just to make sure (a wet, empty parking lot and 30 MPH!)

I should get it checked out to make sure, but ABS pumps are EXPENSIVE.

It's funny, we also all have 89-91 TIIs.

Perhaps the heat from the turbo messes with the pump somewhat? How many miles do you guys have on your cars? I have 92.5K on mine.

i've got 68K on mine...still the original motor. the previous owner ported the wastegate on the turbo and rebuilt it in the process of having it off...he didn't put the heat shield back on but DID coat the turbo with that high temp ceramic coating or whatever it is...so maybe the heat from the turbo does mess with it somewhat...but i'm not sure exactly...
