Preventing ECU codes @ emission removal

What can be done to prevent the ECU from throwing codes once emissions are removed? I hear some resistors are supposed to be used, but where, and what kind?

On an S5 the ACV solenoids will throw a code.
When I pulled the ACV, I left the solenoids connected to the harness & zip tied them out of the way.
