Question pressing gas pedal while starting car

I've heard you should never hit the gas while you're starting a 7. I know if you floor it (in certain ones) that it actually cuts off fuel as an anti-flooding measure (at least i think that's true), but what about pressing it halfway, or for that matter, anything but full throttle? Does this do something to the injectors, plugs, electronics (sending strange signals), or all of them? I have no idea, and for some reason this bothered me enough to post. Any takers?

the s5 have the fuel cut off when u floor the gas pedal while cranking , y do u need to press the gass pedel while cranking it should start up just by turning the key, i never used the gas pedel to start my car (but i don't see how it could hurt)

I use the gas pedal all the tiem in starting my 87 N/A with over 200k miles on it .. it wont start well otherwise, it's tired. It could prolly use a TPS adjustment also.

yeah i think my TPS may be out too, but I can't get around to checking it. I tried last time I was home, but sadly enough I couldn't figure out how to do it. I tried reading some stuff, but I was fried from messing with other things on the car all day, so i didn't get to the TPS. anyways, I normally give it a little gas too, the "it should start right up" is kind of like saying "the engine shouldn't blow". Maybe you shouldn't have to, but there's always gonna be times when you do, especially with these cars.

the tps and the temp sensors will tell the ecu to enrichen for starting (no choke or cold start injector). if you hold the pedal down each time the ecu will learn to start the car that way but it is not needed. also if it learned to start at off idle and someone tried to start it correctly the ecu would need to relearn the proper method. The ecu may need 40 or more starts to learn

ahh.... so that's why my car "learned" to start like that... I had some cold start probs and that was the only way to do it. Once I tracked down a leak or twenty, it felt better, but still needed gas to start. But if it won't start the right way, would it require me to crank and stop and crank and stop... until finally I've repeated that ~40 times? Sounds like it would almost do too much harm to the engine to try to "relearn" to start the normal way now.

Mine floods in a minor way all the time. (ever since I had the 2ndaries cleaned, so it's an issue regarding that) ...anyway, when it has flooded in a bad way, that seems to be the only way to start it. When it does it in it's minor form (warmish engine, not hot) I have to crank it (2secs), then gas it while still holding and it goes. (whole process <10secs)

yeah sounds like yours isn't flooding too bad then. I got tired of screwing around with my flooding problem and I didn't want to screw up my computer by changing the transducer (transformer, flux capacitor or whatever it is) that controls the hot start, so I rigged mine up with a $4 cut-out switch. Whole process of starting now is still longer than it should be, and it smokes, but at least it starts and I'm not AS embarassed to drive a "fast" car that doesn't start

Having the same issue with my 91 vert. Sometimes ill crank it like normal and it starts right up but sometimes ill have to press the gas pedal all the way down to get it to start. Thinking the TPS might need adjustment.
