So I know how Premix works and how to do it (but never did it on mine which was a mistake) but I'm wondering if there is a specific type of 2 stroke oil that should be used or does it not matter as long as its 2 stroke right? please let me know. Thanks!

 

Any TC-W3 certified premix will be fine. Some people will swear by and only use Idemitsu because it's "rotary" premix. Do as you wish. Most of us use the Pennzoil marine which you can find at any autoparts store.

**** Idemitsu, it's the same crap, in a fancy bottle and about 10 times the cost. engineered for rotaries on the race track my ***, it's 2 stroke oil... i just roll my eyes every time someone swears by it.

in fact, just about everyone is going to try and sell you their oil, i just didn't and still don't buy into it because there is no need for it. same goes for the crankcase oil, the only difference is in the turbo where the oil must be able to maintain integrity in the severe heat, so if you track the car or run the turbo hard a lot then a higher flashpoint oil should be used.

 

I ever had bad luck with Pennzoil Marine. But I have been use for 10 years Quicksilver Synthetic 2 Stroke Oil. Is an ash less oil. My T2 have 400hp and is my daily driver. I also used on the track Blendzall and Maxima 927 Castor Oil. But they make a lot of carbon and are expensive oils.

 

What about Amsoil? They have a few different kinds

 

i use amsoil because i like to use their products. But Just like everyones already said on this thread,and many others. It comes down to as much as you do or dont want to spend.

It's probably been said in other threads but since I'm here, should I step up to 91 oct when I premix? At least on a N/A will it even matter? Or should I be using 93 anyways

 

I don't think I posted in this thread but I knew a guy that was big into motocross racing and I asked him his opinion on two cycle oil and asked if there is one that dominated the field or was "mojo". He said Bell or any other low ash synthetic is all he used. He said he switched brands based on sponsorship and price only, but ran a low ash synthetic, always.

Your NA does not need anything beyond 87, or your local equivalent.

I happen to have DC5 and I have to run 93 (min is 91). I don't know, it's like three bucks a tank. It's nice the rotary's don't need it. What about RX8?

 

the RX8 is arguable, since it can be susceptible to detonation during hot days with the 10:1 compression and the craptastic factory ignition system.

you won't blow up an RX8 short term due to it, but i believe it can cause long term damage. you can audilbly hear the RX8 "chirps" more with lower octane fuels.

I read a million threads, opinions are all over the map. We settled on 8-10oz per full tank which seems to be a nice middle ground. Just make sure it's TC-W3 as it's intended to mix with fuel better. Also, make sure to either put it in, then fill tank, or put it in tank and let it sit and mix for a bit (hours?) If you start up too soon you will see a huge cloud! It won't hurt anything though.

 

i use amsoil interceptor 2 stroke oil. pretty cheap since im a preferred customer and its what they recommended to me when i asked the technical dept.

 

I like the redline products simply because they race rotaries. They mention 0.75 ounces per gallon works in their race engines without OMP so that's about what I run. This is on a track only car though so if it was my daily I would likely run Penzoil Marine like everyone else mentioned.
