Should I be putting premium in my 89' TII with no mods?

errrrhhh.....I believe an 87 TII owners manual say 87 octane, but I wouldn't be using any shitty brands, exxon, moblie, shell, and cheveron are all good I choose the later, hey I put 87 octane in my 88 TII street ported and stock boost

I think that the S5 has a knock sensor (probably not the best one). What does that mean? Possible that with higher octane, you could net more power because the ECU would let the engine advance more.

Does it actually work that way? Probably not, but I would run 91 anyways just for the added "knock" protection,

It's made to run on 87. However, if the engine is in bad shape or out of tune, then you may need to use a higher octane.

Nope, it's not that good unfortunately. The stock sensor is not sensitive enough to hear detonation at high revs. It really only there to protect the engine from low-speed lugging. I believe past 3500-4000rpm it's useless.

I run 91-93 when I'm not broke and 87-89 when I am.. it runs JUST FINE on just about any gas that I put into it.
