Power windows to Manual Windows

how hard would it be to change? I'm guessing you only need to remove the power window motor and change door panels.

anything else?

I'm getting sick of power windows. They're heavy, when the motors break down, they're a pain to replace, and just not worth it.

you'd also have to get the window regulator inside the door from a manual one. taking out the manual window regulator is pretty simple.

Caution: Try not to bend anything. Operation of the window will become extremely difficult and worsen with time.

1. Remove door panel
2. Remove clear plastic
3. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the window in
4. Pull the window out at an angle so it doesn't just slide into the molding
5. Remove the bolts holding the regulator
6. Take the regulator out through the barely adequate access holes.

should be about the same for the power stuff with the addition of unbolting/unplugging the motor and switches. i've never replaced a power window before.

Install in reverse order of removal. Simple.

I beg to differ. I personally did the swap on my friends RACE / DRAG car. There was a diffrence for sure. The regulator and motor on the power setup was definatly more then the regulator and cable for the manual setup.

Very minimal as a weight reduction when done by itself, but DEFINATLY a diffrence.

By the time I was done with that door it weighed WAY LESS THEN HALF of what it started at. I removed all the unnecessary metal, including the bar inside that protects you in the event of a crash. That thing weighs about 10 pnds in itself.

OK, so it's an insignificant weight difference that you'll never actually notice, so it's a waste of time. What you will notice is the inconvenience of manual windows compared to electric ones.

I think NZ is right, I saw a post somewhere where both power and manual were weighed the it came out almost the same. Like you said you also removed a bunch of other stuff like the safety bars and stuff so thats where the weight came off.

Swapping out the two takes minimal effort (I could do it in literally 5 minutes a side) for minimal results, but if you add 10 "minimal result" weight reductions together you get one big diffrence.

My point is... the motor that powers the windows IS DEFINATLY MORE in weight then the cable and plastic handle used to turn it by hand. I'd safely guess aprox. 2.5 pnds difference for EACH SIDE. A ridiculous amount if you've done nothing else, but if you're scrounging around for that last couple of pounds, there's a difference.

Think about this... The crash bar inside the door will take a competent person, with the right tools and compressed air, a minimal of 1hr to do a neat job on EACH SIDE. Only to save... lets say... 10pnds.

Yet swapping from power to manual takes only a flathead screwdriver, a 10mm w/an extension on a 1/4" driver and only 10min for a total of... lets say... 6 pnds.

I'm not saying I'm right or wrong... That wouold depend on how **** you were about reducing the weight of YOUR car and for you to decide.

I knew I should of weighed EVERYTHING that came out of that door.
