power window woes

The power window on my 91 vert will not go down anymore but I can hear the motor when I go to hit the button. Got any idea on what it may be? thanks.

Gene, will it go down if you help (push) it down? And go back up very slowly? Because if so, everything's prob still intact, but the lubricant on the assembly is dry and hardened. If you take the panel off, remove the window, then remove the assembly, you'll see the super old (15 year old or so) lubricant is practically non-existant. Dip the assembly in gasoline to break apart the old crusty lubricant. Really rub it down w/ a brush...make sure you get all that old gunk off. Then let it airdry. When 100% dry, use some lithium grease (great stuff), relubricate everything, then put it back in. TEST IT BEFORE PUTTING THE PANELS BACK ON lol. It should work like a charm.

I had to do this on the FB, and they windows are super fast and smooth now. Also make sure the weatherstripping isn't bent and causing friction during window travel.

Lastly, don't hold the button down if the window won't roll up/down. That'll burnout the motor. The motors rarely go bad themselves (except via the way I just mentioned). Usually it's just the assembly needing cleaning and relubrication.
