Power Window Help?
Power Window Help?
Hi, I have an '88 vert. Passenger window works perfectly from driver's side control, from passenger control window will go up but not down. Help is appreciated, thanks.
You can try taking the switch apart and cleaning the contacts. I have an S5 (can't operate surgery on), so I just got generic switches from radioshack and wired them in. They're good as new, and not overpriced.

The power window design is pretty crummy. The full current of the motor goes through the switch contacts, so they tend to burn up over time. I would expect that you've had some melting of the plastic around the contact in the passenger switch.
A repeated problem I've found is having the passenger window quit working altogether. Problem - twice - has been in the driver side master switch. The passenger-on/off switch gets too hot and the contact sinks down into the plastic. Xacto knife and dremmel (for polishing) fixed it both times.
Anyway, the best fix is to put hi-current (30amp) relays in the door to route the current and use the switches to run the relays. There used to be a page describing how to do it, but it won't come up now - sorry. Perhaps someone knows of a new link?
